Brilliant when it launched and still brilliant today! This site is a joy to use, it's well laid out and there are lots of helpful clickable links along the way. Everything is done on secure pages and although the initial form filling takes some time it is better than repeating this process on multiple sites.

Pros:
As mentioned above all the information collection on the site is done on secure pages. You fill in your information once and the site goes out and gathers quotes from multiple insurance vendors. I got over 75 quotes back when I used the site for this review. You can save your quote information and come back and modify certain criteria and 'mess around' to see how it affects prices. There is some excellent additional information available under the buyers guide link and the help link.

Should you want to go ahead and purchase insurance from one of the sites that has returned a quote to you the process remains easy and secure. And you don't need to re-enter your information on the insurer's site because they have been passed this data by Confused.com (of course you would be wise to re-check the information for accuracy).

Cons:
I really have nothing negative to say about this site except that it might be nice if there was a live online chat feature or a telephone number to call if you were having difficulty with the site (rather than relying just on email).

How to:

• Get a Quote
  Get started by indicating whether you are a first time user or a returning user (there'll be more questions to fill out if you are the former), gather all the necessary paperwork (car registration number, purchase details and the like) and spend 20-25 minutes completing the well-laid out forms.

  Click on the Contact Us link at the top of the page for a feedback form - you can find a postal address in the about us section (link at the bottom of the page) as well as an email address.

Save time by filling out one quote request form and being able to compare multiple quotes at a glance. Very easy to use and well laid out. The approach is similar to Confused.com but not as elegantly implemented or as pioneering.

Pros:
You fill in your information once and the site goes out and gathers quotes from multiple insurance vendors. Although some people might find the multiple screen way of entering their information tedious I rather liked entering little chunks of information at a time rather than being confronted with a great long page of boxes to complete.

I received 33 quotes with a range of prices from £370 to £670. The site also offers quotes for other types of UK insurance (i.e. house insurance, pet insurance).

Cons:
The only negative comments I have about this site is that there is no additional information about car insurance available to assist the shopper and there is no way to contact QuoteZone by telephone or via online chat.

Cheap Car Insurance - Insure Your Motor

A good, quick and secure information collection system. You'll receive plenty of quotes from this site and there is some excellent and very helpful information available for the insurance shopper.

Pros:
Information is collected on secure pages and there are good explanations of what they are looking for when you 'hover' over the text to the right of the field. There is some autofilling of forms which is helpful. Quotes are saved and can be recalled using a reference number (remember to write it down). You should receive plenty of quotes and you can buy online.

Cons:
The previously toll free help number has been replaced by one that isn't toll free and although there are many helpful articles on the site the only way to access them is by going to the site map and finding them under the Insurance/Articles heading (they don't seem to be accessible from the main page).

Cheap Car Insurance Quotes UK - Compare Car Insurance Brokers & Insurers

A similar approach to Confused.com but not nearly as satisfying (at least in my opinion) or easy to use. Information collection was secure but somewhat tedious and with a couple of minor deficiencies as pointed out below. The quote display at the end could be better. Your quote is saved and can be recalled later. There is very little additional information available that would be helpful to the car insurance shopper.

Pros:
Information collection is on secure pages and clickable links help explain what is required in different fields. You see multiple quotes at the finish of the process and can buy them online. You can save your quote and recall it using a reference number and some personal information (remember to write the reference number down). The chart at the end of the process has been improved and many of the companies offering insurance now allow you to buy online (as well as over the telephone) and if you use your quote number you won't have to re-supply all your information.

Cons:
The information collection pages could have more information on each page so that there would be less of them (since the submission of each page is what takes the time). Also the text was tiny and almost unreadable on my monitor and since the quoting is done in a Javascript popup window there is no ability to increase the font size on the fly. There is a FAQ on the site but it is very short and does not really offer any particularly helpful information.

Superquote - Compare Cheap Car Insurance and Other Insurance Quotes and Save with Superquote

This site has a similar approach to Confused.com but is not quite as full featured, elegantly implemented or as much fun (yes, websites can be fun). Still it has a simple and quick interface, some helpful additional information and a pleasingly basic approach.

Pros:
The information collection process is quick and relatively easy to understand and all done on secure pages. You'll get a few quotes returned (I got 4 during this review) and you can continue on and purchase insurance directly from the vendors listed on your quote results page. You can bookmark the page and return to your quote later. The additional information available under the heading Useful Guides (on the main page) is quite helpful.

Cons:
The clickable question marks next to the fields where you enter information are not very helpful. I got far fewer quotes on this site than on Confused.com. There is no telephone number or live chat facility available on the site.

Unfortunately you see far fewer quotes with this site than others although you can go on to buy online. There isn't really any extra information of interest to insurance shoppers on the site.

Pros:
The information collection process is quick and all done on secure pages. You can buy securely online. There is a toll free help number available if you run in to difficulty with the online insurance quoting and/or buying process. You can save your quote and return to it later.

Cons:
This review I only received 3 quotes after completing the forms. There is not a lot of additional information on the site that would be of use to the insurance shopper.

Pros:
Pop up messages help you complete the information gathering forms - all of which are secure. Multiple quotes are provided with a wide range of price points (£288-£600). It is easy to securely buy the policy that you decide you want online. There is toll free help as well as email available if you need assistance.

Cons:
There is no additional information on the site that would be of help to insurance purchasers.

You get fewer quotes than with other 'multiple site quoting' sites but if you want to progress on to buying it is well handled. There is good contact information for the company but no extras that would be of assistance to the vehicle insurance shopper.

Pros:
Information is collected on secure pages and clickable links are provided should you be unsure of what a field is asking for. You'll get 3 quotes at the end of the process and you can go on to buy any of these with ease. A toll free number is provided should you need help.

Cons:
Certain fields (i.e. vehicle model) where drop down lists would be helpful require you to type in your information. There is no additional information on the site that would help the insurance shopper. Your quote is saved but you have to make note of a reference number to recall it - make sure and write this number down or you won't be able to recall your quote.

Keep in mind that this site differs from the others in this category in that it only offers insurance from one provider (Norwich Union) - still, you may want to check it out to see how it compares. All information is collected securely and is well explained. There isn't any extra information available online for the insurance shopper.

Pros:
Information is collected securely and fields have clickable links next to them to help you understand what the field should contain. The process is relatively quick and straightforward . When you've completed the process you'll see the Norwich Union quote and can continue on to buy this coverage securely either online or over the telephone. You can save your quote and come back to it later.

Cons:
Unlike the other higher rated sites in this category Norwich Union is an insurance seller themselves and thus you'll see only one quote (although there is an option near the end of the process to see up to 3 other quotes from competing insurers). There is no additional information - such as buyers' guides or glossaries - that would be helpful to the insurance shopper (there is a FAQ but it is quite short).
