Canada Help Me Choose
Still have no idea which car is best for you? Try these resources....
If you find that the Canadian car research tools listed on this page are not adequate for your needs you can use the tools on the American page (simply click on the "See this page for: the US" link in the lower left hand corner of the page). Keep in mind that there are some subtle differences between cars for sale in Canada and in the US.
The major differences between US and Canadian regulations mean that cars for sale in Canada must have bilingual labels, kilometers instead of miles, child seat anchors, daytime running lights and more stringent bumpers. Obviously prices shown on US sites are in US dollars and you should keep that in mind when looking at any pricing data.

Canadian automotive network - Find your vehicle
http://www.auto123.com/en/new-cars/car-finder
Today's review (August 2011) moves this tool to the top of the ranking (not because it has improved but because the earlier noted Globe and Mail tool has disappeared). Good number of criteria available with this tool from Auto123 and Fuel Economy now included unlike in earlier reviews. To get started head over to the right hand side of the page directly beneath the Auto123 login box.
Pros:
The tool is easy to use and covers the basic criteria you might wish to use to narrow your choices (price range, body style, transmission type) as well as allowing you to compare cars to one another once you've got a list of possible choices.
It wasn't immediately obvious to me but you must click on the 'update' link in the bottom of the popup window to get your choices to stick. Then when you've finished selecting criteria click on the Search button.
Cons:
There is no way to indicate what criteria are most important to you (for example safety or resale value) as there are on better quality 'help me choose' tools.

A Friend in the Car Business
http://gordnwright.blogspot.com/
Gord Wright's site doesn't really fit neatly into any of our categories but I've put it here since I sense that he would be more than happy to help you choose which car is right for you.
Pros:
Mr. Wright offers a helpful, free service that is available to anyone that comes to his blog. I am sure there are lots of gems for car shoppers here no matter where you might be located on the planet. What I'd suggest you do is that if you have questions about a specific issue (say invoice pricing) use the search feature (top left hand corner) on his blog and see what he has to say about the issue. And if you don't find any information on the topic why not drop him a note?
Cons:
Mr. Wright is located in Ontario so although he may be able to help you with informational questions about the car buying process no matter where in the country you might be he's not going to be likely to sell you a vehicle if you're from elsewhere. Also, he works at a Mazda dealership so if you're looking to purchase a new vehicle from a different manufacturer you're going to be out of luck.

Cars4U.com - Buy or lease your new car online
http://www.cars4u.com/search/
Another lacklustre tool but with so few to choose from we have to include it.
Pros:
It is nice that you can specify price range in three ways - total cost, estimated lease payment or estimated finance payment.
Cons:
There is no ability to specify number of doors, type of transmission or any of the other of tens (hundreds?) of criteria provided on American help-me-choose tools. Sigh.
